I’m always looking for ways to make my training sessions more engaging and effective. π€ For the past few months, my family and I have been exploring Dungeons and Dragons π², and I’ve realized that corporate trainers could learn a lot from how Dungeon Masters lead their players through quests. I have posted about DnD in the training room before. You can read up on the previous post here. Here are a few more thoughts on how we could incorporate D&D principles into our training sessions:
1οΈβ£ Create a compelling narrative – A good DM shares a story that draws players in and keeps them engaged. Similarly, corporate trainers should strive to create a narrative that makes the training material more relatable and memorable. π
2οΈβ£ Encourage interaction and collaboration – In D&D, players collaborate to overcome challenges. Corporate trainers should encourage interaction and collaboration by incorporating group activities and discussions. π₯
3οΈβ£ Offer meaningful choices – In D&D, players’ choices have real consequences for the outcome of the game. Corporate trainers can offer learners meaningful choices by presenting scenarios and asking them to make decisions based on the training material. π€
4οΈβ£ Provide immediate feedback – In D&D, players receive immediate feedback on their actions and decisions. Corporate trainers should provide learners with feedback on their performance as soon as possible so that they can make corrections and improve their skills. π
By embracing these principles, we can create a more engaging and effective learning experience for our participants. π€ So next time you’re planning your training session, think like a Dungeon Master and consider how you can create a compelling narrative, foster interaction, and collaboration, offer meaningful choices and provide immediate feedback. Have a great week! π
